Because of the weight of the plagues, the Egyptian people actually "urged the people to hurry and leave the country" (Ex. 12:31). The Egyptians also gave the Israelites whatever they asked, for which the book of Exodus gives credit to God. Not only did they escape their bondage, but in the process they "plundered the Egyptians" (12:36). Much of the plunder was later used to decorate the tabernacle and its furnishings.
